Pacesetter Queens Confirm Rebecca Is No Longer Their Player Amid Abduction Reports

Pacesetter Queens have clarified that Ihotu John Rebecca is no longer a member of their squad following reports of her alleged abduction along the Benin Expressway in Edo State.

In a statement shared on the club’s official X account on Tuesday, the Oyo State-based team said Rebecca had been released during the current transfer window of the Nigeria Women’s Football League Premiership.

“The Management of Pacesetter Queens Football Club wishes to address the reports currently circulating about our former player, Ihotu John Rebecca, and the alleged security incident said to have taken place along the Benin Expressway in Edo State,” the statement read.

The club emphasised that Rebecca, along with other released players, is no longer under contract. “For clarity, these individuals are not part of the club’s current roster,” it added.

Despite this, the club expressed deep concern over the news, describing it as “disturbing” and urging authorities to act swiftly. “From the moment we received information about the incident, the club immediately contacted the relevant authorities and activated all available channels to support efforts aimed at her safe return,” the statement said.

Pacesetter Queens also extended support to Rebecca’s family, highlighting that her connection to the club goes beyond football. “Although her professional journey with us has ended, she remains part of this family. Football unites us on the pitch, but compassion binds us beyond it,” the statement read.

The club called on the public to remain patient and supportive while efforts continue. “We stand with Rebecca’s family during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with her, and we urge everyone to remain supportive as the necessary processes unfold.”

Authorities have not released further details about the alleged abduction.
