Palm Syrup FC reach NLO Cup final after dramatic penalty shootout win over Kun Khalifa
Palm Syrup FC reached the Nationwide League One Cup [NLO Cup] final after a dramatic peanlty shootout win over Kun Khalifa on Tuesday November 23.
Palm Syrup FC and Kun Khalifa topped their respective groups to reach the semi-final at the Uyo Center of the maiden NLO Cup.
The semi-final match decided at the Uyo Township Stadium lived up to its billing following a dramatic penalty shootout to determine the winner after regulation time ended 0-0.
Both teams took a combined sixteen penalty kicks with Kun Khalifa leading by two and needing to score at least one of two kicks to win the game.
Kun Khalifa fluffed their chance by missing the fouth and fifth kicks to allow Palm Syrup back on level terms to take the shootout to sudden death.
Both teams scored their next two kicks before Syrup converted and watched with excitement as Kun Khalifa’s eight kicker hit the post with his effort.
So, it finished 6-5 in favour of Palm Syrup FC who now qualify for the NLO Cup final where they will face the winner of Kano Center.
