Paris Olympics: China leads Artistic Swimming Team Acrobatic event on opening day
With a performance characterized by “Passion and Speed,” China took the lead in the team acrobatic event on the first day of artistic swimming at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Among the ten competing teams, China impressed the judges with their balance of complex lifts, varied leg movements, and elegance, earning a leading score of 313.5538 points. The team, who dominated previous World Championships, made strategic adjustments to their routine, incorporating higher difficulty and showcasing their passion.
Wang Liuyi commented on their performance, “We made some changes based on our previous routine with higher difficulty. It was a challenge and we tried hard to express all of our passion in the routine. We felt confident only after we confirmed our scores.”
Head coach Zhang Xiaohuan highlighted the impact of the enthusiastic crowd, saying, “We felt motivated by the great support from the fans. We tried to include some Chinese cultural elements into our routine, such as the posture we showed on the stage with Yong Chun Quan [kung fu].”
Spain finished the day in second place with a score of 287.1475, while Japan and the United States secured third and fourth places with scores of 284.9017 and 282.7567 points, respectively.
The team competition at the Paris Olympics features a single finals phase where all ten teams perform three routines: team technical, team free, and team acrobatic.
The final standings and medal awards will be determined by the total points accumulated across these three routines. The competition runs from August 5 to 7.
