Paris Olympics: Confident Favour Ofili ready for 200m semifinal
Nigerian sprinter Favour Ofili is confident in her ability to win the 200m race at the Paris Olympics after advancing to the semifinals.
Despite her disappointment at not being entered in the 100m due to a blunder by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) and the Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC), Ofili has shown strong form in the 200m.
After being left out of the 100m race, which she expressed frustration over on social media, Ofili bounced back with a standout performance in the 200m heat. She defeated Great Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith, one of the pre-race favorites, with a time of 22.24 seconds.
Speaking to Making of Champions on X after her heat victory on Sunday, Ofili said, “Mentally I am ready… All I know is when I step on that track, I’m going to cross the line before anybody else. I don’t care what you ran before coming in here, we are all the same because we are Olympians.”
Ofili started the 200m race from lane 2 with a quick start, positioning herself well as she entered the curve. She then closed the gap on Asher-Smith, overtaking her with a powerful finish.
Despite the setback in the 100m, Ofili remains focused and determined as she prepares for the 200m semifinal.
