Paris Olympics: Tobi Amusan advances to 100-meter hurdles semi-finals
World record holder Tobi Amusan has qualified for the 100-meter hurdles semi-finals at the Paris 2024 Olympics with a leading time of 12.49 seconds.
The Nigerian sprinter showcased her exceptional form, finishing ahead of America’s Alaysha Johnson (12.61) and Jamaica’s Janeek Brown (12.84).
Amusan, who has been a standout performer this season with a world-leading time of 12.40 seconds and several record-setting achievements, is a strong contender for the gold medal.
However, she will face stiff competition from a formidable field that includes Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton, USA’s Alaysha Johnson, world champion Danielle Williams, and reigning Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico.

The semi-finals are scheduled for Friday, August 9, with the final taking place on Saturday, August 10. Amusan’s impressive form leading up to the Games, including setting the indoor African 60m hurdles record twice and winning multiple titles across various competitions, underscores her status as a top contender.
Having previously competed in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, Amusan brings extensive experience to the track and aims to add another Olympic medal to her impressive collection, which includes three Diamond League titles, two Commonwealth Games gold medals, and multiple African championships.
