Paseiro targets 2023 AFCON win with Nigeria

Head Coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles , Jose Paseiro has revealed he is building a formidable team capable of winning the next Africa Cup of Nations tournament .

 

Paseiro made this disclosure in a chat with NFF Media ahead of the Eagles International Friendly game vs Algeria on Tuesday September 27, 2022 in Oran .

 

” It feels good . We can do something great for the national team . I am happy that I have a friendly game against Algeria and also opportunity to have the around for some days , ”

 

” It will improve the national team . I want to win the next AFCON and I want to do everything possible to improve the national team . ” Paseiro told NFF Media .

 

Nigeria have won the Africa Cup of Nations tournament on three occasions , the last in 2013 under the tutelage of Late Stephen Keshi .

 

Paseiro who took over as the Eagles head coach in May 2022 is optimistic he can build a squad capable of conquering the continent at the 2023 AFCON.

 

The Portuguese gaffer used the opportunity to talk about preparations for the international friendly games , first vs Algeria B today Friday September 23 before the FIFA recognized game vs the Desert Foxes on September 27, 2022 .

 

” We need to create a connection with the players and the technical crew . We need to see better other new players with the goal of building a strong national team . ”

 

Despite the flurry of injuries to several key players , the latest involving Wilfred Ndidi who has been excused from the Eagles camp in Constainte to fly back to England , Paseiro is impressed with the quality of players available for selection .

” We have many good players , I and the staff check on the players either live or other means  . I am impressed with their performance in training .

 

” I like it that they came from their clubs with happiness . I demand maximum responsibility and focus from the players at trainings and off the pitch . ” Paseiro concluded .
