Paul George suspended for 25 Games after NBA Drug policy violation

Philadelphia 76ers forward Paul George has been suspended for 25 games after violating the NBA’s anti-drug programme, the league confirmed.

The 35 years old, a nine time NBA All-Star, said the violation was the result of taking an improper medication while seeking treatment for a personal mental health issue. George accepted responsibility for the mistake and issued an apology to the organisation, his teammates, and fans.

“Over the past few years, I’ve spoken openly about the importance of mental health,” George said in a statement to ESPN. “In the process of getting help, I made a poor decision and took a medication I shouldn’t have. I take full responsibility.”

George added that he plans to use the suspension period to focus on his health and prepare for his return.

The suspension is without pay, and George will be eligible to return on 25 March, when Philadelphia faces the Chicago Bulls. At that point, only 10 regular-season games will remain.

This season, George has averaged 16 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.5 steals per game for the 76ers. His absence is a significant setback for Philadelphia as they approach the final stretch of the regular season.
