Paul Onuachu finishes bottom on Puskas award ranking
On Tuesday, the World Soccer governing body announced the winner of the 2024 Puskas Award, and the winner was Alejandro Garnacho, an Argentine international. The Puskas Award is given to the player who scores the most amazing goal of the year, and Garnacho won it for his incredible bicycle kick against Everton FC.
A total of eleven players were nominated for the award, and one of them was Nigeria’s Super Eagles forward Paul Onuachu. Onuachu’s goal was also considered for the prestigious award. The Nigerian striker scored his nominated goal during his loan spell at Trabzonspor, a club in Turkey’s Super Lig.
After the votes were counted, Garnacho finished as the winner with 26 points for his stunning bicycle kick. The goal was praised for its technical difficulty and beauty.
Onuachu, on the other hand, finished last in the voting. He earned just 4 points, which placed him at the bottom of the list of nominees. Despite his goal not being enough to win, Onuachu still received recognition for his contribution to the game.
Although Onuachu did not win the Puskas Award, his nomination is still an important achievement in his career.
