Paul Onuachu nearing Bundesliga switch with Augsburg, Stuttgart interested

Super Eagles striker unlikely to remain in Championship with Soton

Lanky Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu is closing in on a move to the Bundesliga to bring his nightmare stint in England to an end, with both Stuttgart and Augsburg interested in his services this summer.

Onuachu moved to Southampton from KRC Genk in January 2023 and failed to score a single goal for the Saints as they were relegated to the Championship. The 29-year-old made 11 appearances, all in the league, for Southampton but played only 404 minutes. He failed to complete 90 minutes in any of his games and only started four times for the side.

The giant striker is seeking a quick end to his time in England, and a number of German clubs are prepared to pick him up this summer. Augsburg have made their interest known, but his annual salary of around £1.3m is expected to be a stumbling block to their interest in the Nigeria international.

Stuttgart have also made an approach for the striker and are prepared to match his salary, but have informed him that they will only make a move if they are able to get Guinean striker Serhou Guirassy off their books this summer.

Paul Onuachu is expected to get his move away from Southampton as he has not managed to do enough for the club in his stint at St. Mary’s Stadium.
