Paul Onuachu nets on debut as Trabzonspor maul Besiktas
Super Eagles striker opens goalscoring account in Turkey
Paul Onuachu scored his first goal as a Trabzonspor player as they ran away with a 3-0 win over rivals Besiktas in their Turkish Super Lig meeting. The Nigerian striker scored his first goal of 2023 in the match.
After a disastrous spell at Southampton, Onuachu completed a loan move to Trabzonspor this summer looking to get his career back on track. He was handed a start on his debut, and he did not disappoint.
Onuachu needed only 29 minutes to open his account with Trabzonspor in front of their fans at Papara Park. The giant striker headed home a brilliant delivery from Enis Bardhi to give his side the lead at home. It was his first goal since leaving Genk in January after 12 games without scoring in a Southampton shirt.
Four minutes before half-time, Trabzonspor doubled their advantage. Midfielder Anastasios Bakasetas scored their second goal of the afternoon to give them a healthy cushion at the break.
Two minutes into the second half, Onuachu had to be replaced as he suffered an injury. His place was taken by Turkish youngster Enis Destan for the rest of the game.
Shortly after the hour mark, Trabzonspor had their third goal of the game through Edin Visca, who had been set up by Trezeguet.
Trabzonspor picked up maximum points at home to move up to fourth place in the Super Lig standings. They will be hopeful that the injury suffered by Paul Onuachu is not a serious one.
