Paul Onuachu Scores Twice as Trabzonspor Beat Karagumruk 4-3 in Thrilling Match

Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu scored two goals as Trabzonspor won a dramatic 4-3 match against Fatih Karagumruk on Saturday at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul.

Trabzonspor travelled to the 75,000-seater stadium to face Karagumruk, with both teams not known for scoring many goals this season. But this match turned out to be full of surprises.

Trabzonspor took the lead in the 19th minute when Felipe Augusto scored, thanks to a clever assist from Wagner Pina.

Just nine minutes later, Tiago Cukur scored for Karagumruk to make it 1-1.

Then came Onuachu’s moment. In the 35th minute, he scored a brilliant overhead kick after a cross from Pina, putting Trabzonspor ahead again.

Later, during stoppage time at the end of the first half, Onuachu scored his second goal from the penalty spot, after a VAR check confirmed he had been fouled.

In the second half, Karagumruk had more possession but couldn’t score. Then in the 88th minute, Trabzonspor added a fourth goal to increase their lead to 4-1.

Karagumruk did not give up. David Datro Fofana scored twice in injury time (first and second minutes), but it wasn’t enough. Trabzonspor held on to win 4-3.

Onuachu was named man of the match, earning a rating of 8.4 from Sofascore.

His first goal, the overhead kick, might be nominated for the FIFA Puskás Award later this year. He was also nominated for the award in 2024, where he finished 10th.
