Paul Onuachu set to join Beşiktaş on three-year deal
Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu is close to signing a three-year contract with Beşiktaş, despite strong interest from Trabzonspor.
Reports from Turkey say the Nigerian forward is ready to return to Turkish football after a successful time at Trabzonspor. Onuachu had joined Southampton in January 2023 for about €18 million from KRC Genk. However, his time in England has not gone well, as he has failed to score in 20 appearances for the club.
During his loan at Trabzonspor, Onuachu impressed, scoring 17 goals and getting 4 assists in 31 matches. His performance has made him a target for Süper Lig clubs.
Beşiktaş seems to be leading the race to sign Onuachu, despite competition from Trabzonspor. Reports say Beşiktaş has offered him a three-year deal, and talks with Southampton are going smoothly. Only a few details remain before the deal is completed.
Onuachu, who was recently nominated for the FIFA Puskás Award for a stunning goal at Trabzonspor, is expected to strengthen Beşiktaş’s attack as they aim for a strong league season.
His future at Southampton is unclear after the recent sacking of manager Russell Martin. Onuachu has only played eight times this season, totalling 151 minutes, showing he hasn’t had much playing time. It seems Southampton may consider offers for him in the upcoming transfer window.
