Paul Onuachu’s future uncertain after Southampton strips him of jersey number
Super Eagles forward Paul Onuachu’s future at Southampton is now shrouded in uncertainty after the club stripped him of his jersey number, sparking further speculation about his potential departure.
Onuachu, who has been linked with a move to Turkish side Trabzonspor, is reportedly nearing an exit from St. Mary’s Stadium. The forward has been the subject of ongoing transfer talks, with a deal to Trabzonspor yet to be finalized.
In a recent update from Southampton, the club has officially released their squad numbers for the 2024–2025 season. Onuachu, who previously wore the number 12 jersey, has been assigned number 32. The number 12 jersey, previously worn by Onuachu, will now be donned by Ronnie Edwards, a new signing from Peterborough United.
The decision to change Onuachu’s jersey number aligns with the rumors suggesting he may be on the move. The shift in squad numbers often signals a potential departure, adding weight to the speculation surrounding the striker’s future.
Onuachu joined Southampton from Racing Genk in Belgium and has worn the number 12 shirt for the past two seasons. The number 32 jersey had been vacant since academy product Kamari Doyle’s move to Brighton & Hove in January.
As the transfer window progresses, Onuachu’s situation remains fluid, with Trabzonspor still seen as a potential destination for the Super Eagles star.
