Pep Guardiola explains why Manchester City lost to Bournemouth
Manchester City suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season as Bournemouth secured a 2-1 home win, marking their first victory over City in 15 top-flight encounters.
This historic win ended a run of 14 straight defeats for the Cherries against the defending champions.
Pep Guardiola’s team delivered an unusually subdued performance and only began to press in the closing minutes. Despite rallying towards the end, they couldn’t find an equaliser, allowing Liverpool to move two points clear at the top with their victory over Brighton.
Reflecting on the match, Guardiola said, “We knew we couldn’t match their intensity. It was an open game, and we had chances at the end, but I congratulate Bournemouth for the victory. They played with aggression and physicality, and we struggled with the 50-50 balls and duels.”
Manchester City will now shift focus to their upcoming Champions League clash with Sporting on Tuesday, where Guardiola hopes for a stronger response from his team.
