Peseiro explains delayed International debut for Gift Orban and Jordan Torunarigha

Super Eagles of Nigeria Head Coach Jose Peseiro has explained why KAA Gent duo Gift Orban and Jordan Torunarigha will wait further for their international debut.

Both players received their first ever Super Eagles call-up for the final Africa Cup of Nations qualifying game vs Sao Tome and Principe on Sunday September 10, 2023.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria romped to a 6-0 win over the Patriots to end a successful AFCON qualification journey at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.

Peseiro could not call upon Orban and Jordan for separate reasons and offered explanation in his post match interview.

Peseiro said ” Orban felt pain in the muscles. He cannot play with an injury because we have to take permission from the club. We have a good relationship with the clubs,”

” About Jordan, I can put eleven players with five substitutes. Onyedika came two times and for the first time he played, Tyronne also. Jordan was the first time; he has time.” the Portuguese gaffer explained.

Jordan Torunarigha looked disappointed when Raphael Onyedika was called on for the teams last substitution of the match vs Sao Tome and Principe.

With the AFCON qualification journey complete, Nigeria will look forward to the next confirmed international engagement vs Lesotho in November.

Peseiro tutored Super Eagles team will begin their journey to the 2026 World Cup vs Lesotho at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.
