Peseiro optimistic Osimhen can fire Nigeria to AFCON glory

Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro, has voiced optimism that striker Victor Osimhen can fire Nigeria to glory at the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Osimhen’s instrumental role in the Super Eagles’ qualification for the competition has earned him praise and high expectations from the coach.

The Napoli striker showcased his goal-scoring prowess during the qualifiers, finding the back of the net an impressive 10 times to emerge as the top scorer.

Peseiro highlighted the 25-year-old’s significant contribution, emphasizing that Osimhen’s presence will be crucial for the Super Eagles as they embark on the AFCON journey in Cote d’Ivoire.

Speaking at a dinner organized to celebrate Osimhen’s recognition as Africa’s best player at the team’s training base in Abu Dhabi on Friday night, Peseiro expressed confidence in Osimhen’s ability to claim the title of top scorer in the Cote d’Ivoire 2023 tournament.

“From our team, he (Osimhen) was the highest goal scorer during the qualifiers,” remarked Peseiro. “Of course, his teammates helped him to achieve that. I hope and wish he wins the highest goal scorer and helps us win the tournament.”
