Peseiro recalls Maduka Okoye for Saudi, Mozambique friendlies

Udinese goalkeeper replaces Adeleye in squad

Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has been called up by Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro to the squad for the friendlies against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique in Portugal.

Okoye was invited as a late replacement for Israel-based goalkeeper Adebayo Adeleye, who is unable to join the squad in Portugal as he has been caught up in the middle of the turmoil that has engulfed the country.

The invitation for the 23-year-old also comes after it was discovered that Enyimba goalkeeper Olorunleke Ojo is also stuck in Nigeria as his visa to enter Portugal has not been approved.

Okoye has not played much football since moving to Watford in 2022 and only moved to Italy this summer to join Udinese, where he has not played a single minute. The goalkeeper has seen his development get stunted by his lack of regular game-time.

The Super Eagles will likely have Francis Uzoho in goal when they face Saudi Arabia on October 13th and Mozambique three days later.
