Peseiro reveals why he accepted pay cut to remain Super Eagles Coach

Jose Peseiro has revealed why he accepted a pay cut to remain Super Eagles Head Coach after his contract expired in June.

The Portuguese gaffer first signed a one-year contract with a reported $70,000 monthly pay when he took charge of the Super Eagles in 2022.

To continue as Head Coach of the Super Eagles, the Nigeria Football Federation offered Jose Peseiro a six-month long contract with a pay cut.

The 63-year old signed the new contract and was in charge of the Eagles final Africa Cup of Nations qualifying game vs Sao Tome and Principe on September 10 in Uyo.

In a chat with Brilla, Peseiro said his decision to continue was based on the ambition to win the Africa Cup of Nations title in Cote D’Ivoire.

The Portuguese tactician who recently accepted a pay cut in a bid to remain as coach of the senior national team, told Brila FM in a chat that the desire to win the 2023 AFCON was the main reason behind his decision.

Peseiro said “Me and my staff did everything in order to stay here to train these players and reach the big goal, win the AFCON title.”

Nigeria will participate at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament set to be hosted by Cote d’Ivoire between January 13 to February 11.
