Pesiero: Weather condition will not be an excuse at AFCON
Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro says that weather conditions will not serve as an excuse for his players as they aim for success in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire.
The Super Eagles, who recently concluded a one-week training camp in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, arrived in Côte d’Ivoire on Wednesday to prepare for the tournament that will kickoff on Saturday, January 13, 2024.
After their arrival, the team engaged in a light session to shake-off the effects of the long flight from Nigeria.
Also, Peseiro provided updates on the arrival dates for Kelechi Iheanacho and Terem Moffi plus his expectations for the tournament.
Speaking on NFF TV, Peseiro emphasized the importance of focusing on the task at hand and adapting to the conditions.
He said, “We cannot give excuses about the weather; we need to put in our focus, adapt well and do our best ahead of the first match, which is very important for us.”
Due to the extensive travel and CAF-related activities, the team did not undergo tactical training immediately upon arrival.
Peseiro mentioned that they have scheduled practice sessions for the following day to prepare effectively for the tournament.
The Super Eagles’ first match in the AFCON is crucial, and Peseiro aims to ensure his team is well-prepared for the challenge.
Nigeria will face Equatorial Guinea on Sunday, January 14, 2024 to get their campaign at the 34th AFCON underway.
