Pinnick goes to Qatar to beg Ighalo for Super Eagles
The Nigeria Football Federation president Amaju Pinnick has revealed how he went to Qatar where Odion Ighalo is currently playing in Club World Cup to beg him for Super Eagles.
Odion Ighalo would have led the Super Eagles to the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon but his former club Al Shabab stopped him from joining the team.
An incident that Odion Ighalo reportedly said led to him changing clubs and moving to his current Saudi club Al-Hilal SFC.
Nigeria play a double-header game with Ghana with the first leg in Cape Coast and the second leg in Abuja and Amaju Pinnick wants Odion Ighalo on the team.
“I just met with him,” said Pinnick on meeting Ighalo in Dubai.
“He has assured me that playing for his country will always come first and he is ready to ensure that we do play at this year’s World Cup in Qatar.”
Odion Ighalo became the first Nigerian to score a Club World Cup goal when he helped his Al-Hilal SFC side secure a 6-1 win against Al Jazira.
They will play African Champions League winners Al Ahly in a third-place match tomorrow.
