Pogba strikes on return from injury as Manchester United find a way past AC Milan
Arsenal lose to Olympiacos at home, win 3-2 on aggregate
Manchester United traveled to the San Siro in Italy to take on AC Milan in the second leg of their Europa League Round of 16 encounter after the first leg ended 1-1 at Old Trafford. An early second half goal was enough to secure a 1-0 win for the Red Devils.
Manchester United were unable to break down a resolute AC Milan side that knew a 0-0 draw would be enough to take them through to the next round. It took a masterstroke from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the form of the returning Paul Pogba, who was introduced at halftime to change things for the Red Devils. Only three minutes into the second half, Pogba put the ball in the back of the net from an acute angle after a bit of pinball in the Milan box to score Manchester United’s only goal and earn them a precious 1-0 win in Milan that puts them in Friday’s quarterfinal draw.
Arsenal welcomed their Greek rivals, Olympiacos to the Emirates Stadium after winning 3-1 away from home. The Gunners had Bernd Leno to thank for keeping the scores goalless at the break as he made crucial interventions. Olympiacos however took the lead eventually through Youssef El Arabi in the 51st minute, before they were reduced to 10 men after 82 minutes when Ousseynou Ba was sent off for two yellow cards in quick succession. Olympiacos were unable to score any more and the game ended 1-0, with Arsenal going through 3-2 on aggregate.
