‘Pray for Finidi George’ – Yakubu Aiyegbeni begs Nigerians
Former Super Eagles star, Yakubu Aiyegbeni, has called on Nigerians to pray for Finidi George following Nigeria’s recent loss to the Benin Republic.
Yakubu shared his thoughts on the team’s performance in their games against South Africa and Benin Republic.
Yakubu, who famously played for Everton and scored 21 goals in 58 games for the Super Eagles, supports the Nigerian Football Federation’s (NFF) decision to appoint Finidi George, his former teammate, as head coach. He believes Finidi is capable but needs support and prayers from Nigerians.
In an interview, Yakubu said, “I watched their game against South Africa and thought they were unlucky. Finidi is a great guy, and I hope he succeeds. If he does well, we will see the real Super Eagles. Let’s pray for him.”
Yakubu emphasised that coaching Nigeria is challenging and praised Finidi’s skills as a player. “When I played with him, he and Jay-Jay Okocha were our seniors and were amazing. I’m happy he got the role.”
Currently, the Super Eagles are struggling in their FIFA World Cup qualifiers, sitting fifth in their group, four points behind South Africa, Rwanda, and Benin Republic. Yakubu’s message is clear: Finidi needs the nation’s support to turn things around.
