Predicted Super Eagles Starting XI for Rwanda Clash
As Nigeria’s Super Eagles prepare to face Rwanda in their second FIFA World Cup qualifying match, SportsRations’ Nsikakabasi Akpan has predicted how the team might line up for the crucial encounter in Kigali.
After observing the team’s training sessions and studying Coach Eric Chelle’s tactics, Akpan believes the Super Eagles will set up in a 4-3-3 formation. Chelle is known for his focus on keeping possession and encouraging attacking football, so he’s expected to adopt a system that gets the best out of his players.
In goal, Stanley Nwabali is tipped to start. The Chippa United shot-stopper has become Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper in recent matches and is expected to retain his place between the sticks.
The defence is likely to include Ola Aina at right-back and Bruno Onyemaechi on the left. At the heart of the backline, William Troost-Ekong and Calvin Bassey are set to continue their partnership. Both defenders are experienced and will aim to provide stability at the back.
In midfield, Akpan predicts that Raphael Onyedika will take up the defensive midfield role. The Club Brugge star has impressed in Europe this season, and Chelle is said to trust him to control the game from deep. Playing ahead of Onyedika will likely be Wilfred Ndidi and Alex Iwobi. Ndidi will probably operate on the right, while Iwobi takes the left side, with both players expected to press high and support the wingers.
On the flanks, Moses Simon is predicted to start on the left wing, with Ademola Lookman on the right. Both players offer pace and creativity, and they will look to provide service to Victor Osimhen, who is expected to lead the line as the central striker. Osimhen’s movement and goal-scoring instincts will be vital for Nigeria’s attack.
Chelle is hoping his team’s quick passing, pressing, and attacking style will break down Rwanda’s defence and earn an important away win.
