The mass exodus of players from defending champions Rangers FC, could severely hinder their ability to retain the title.
Rangers FC, despite their triumph last season, have lost key players over the summer, a factor that Uduak Oscar believes will weaken their squad significantly. “Rangers may have been formidable last season, but with so many departures, their ability to remain competitive will be tested. Their title defence could falter because they simply lack the depth they once had.”
With Rangers potentially struggling, Oscar tips Enyimba International and Remo Stars as favourites to claim the NPFL title this season.
Both teams impressed on matchday one with away victories: Enyimba beat Heartland FC 3-1 in Owerri, while Remo Stars secured a 2-0 win against Abia Warriors. Their dominant performances on the road have set an early tone for what could be a title chase between these two clubs.
“Remo Stars have been knocking on the door for some time, and with the quality in their squad, this might be their season,” Oscar states. “Enyimba, after finishing third last year, look poised to push for the title, and their opening win sends a clear signal of intent.”
Beyond Enyimba and Remo Stars, Oscar also highlights clubs like Shooting Stars, Akwa United, and Kano Pillars as potential dark horses in the race for the championship. “These teams have the pedigree and experience to challenge at the top, and if they can maintain consistency, they could emerge as surprise champions”.
