Premier League Explains Why Gueye Was Sent Off Against Manchester United

The Premier League has issued an official statement confirming why Everton midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye received a straight red card during the first half of Monday’s match against Manchester United.
Gueye was dismissed after clashing with his own team-mate, Michael Keane, following a loose ball that ended with Bruno Fernandes shooting wide. The referee judged the incident to be violent conduct.
In its statement, the Premier League said: “The referee’s call of red card to Gueye for violent conduct was checked and confirmed by VAR – with the action deemed to be a clear strike to the face of Keane.”
Despite going down to ten men, Everton responded strongly. The sending-off seemed to lift the team, and they took the lead before half-time through a brilliant strike from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
