Premier League: Ten Hag Rejects Manchester United Title Talks
Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has poured cold water on the team’s title credentials following their impressive form since the Premier League restart.
The Red Devils have won their last four games afte the World Cup break, but the former Ajax manager is convinced that is not enough for a title bid.
“That’s a big step,” Ten Hag said when asked about United’s involvement in the title race.
“No, but the belief is growing and that’s a good signal. We have to give every game 100 per cent energy and focus and if you keep in that philosophy it’s possible (a title bid).
“We don’t get too far ahead, it is January, not even half a season, the next game is Everton coming quick, so we will enjoy 24 hours and then move on.”
Manchester United have failed to win the Premier League title since 2013.
De Gea was in an impressive form in the 3-0 win over Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Tuesday, Ten Hag has once again reserved special praise for the Spaniard.
“We only stay strong defensively if we do our jobs and give 100 per cent in every situation,” he added.
“He (De Gea) performed really well. He made some brilliant saves and today one of the reasons we have so many clean sheets is David de Gea. Against West Ham, for example, I remember a save from him.
In general we don’t concede so many chances.”
Ten Hag took over the reins at Old Trafford in the summer and he has been able to steady the ship after a slow start.
Manchester United are in the fourth position on the log, five points clear of Tottenham in fifth.
