President Buhari to host Flamingos in Abuja
Nigeria President, Muhammadu Buhari, will host Nigeria Women’s U-17 team , Flamingos, in Abuja after their impressive campaign at the just concluded FIFA Women’s U-17 World Cup in India.
Flamingos finished as the third-best team at the tournament after beating Germany Women’s U-17 team for the Bronze medal via a penalty shootout.
Coach Bankole Olowookere’s girls, played a total of six games, losing twice, 2-1 in their first game at the tournament to Germany and then Columbia via a penalty shootout in the semis.
While the girls might feel disappointed at not going all the way especially when they were very close in the semis against Columbia, they should be very proud of their achievement.
An African and Nigerian first-ever podium finish is the best ever for the Flamingos who have always stumbled at the quarterfinal hurdle.
And President Buhari is said to host the girls at a later date according to the NFF.
“The Presidency will host the team at a later date,” says NFF in a communique.
