Prime minister awards 10 million rupee bonus to Pakistan´s Champions Trophy winners
Pakistan’s players have been handsomely rewarded for their ICC Champions Trophy success, with bonuses from the country’s cricket board and prime minister.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had already announced additional bonuses of one million rupees per player (approx. £7,500) after Sarfraz Ahmed’s side trounced rivals India by 180 runs in a remarkable final at The Oval on Sunday.
On Wednesday, it was also confirmed that Pakistan’s players will each receive 10 million rupees (£75,000) from the government in recognition of their triumph.
Marriyum Aurangzeb, the minister of state for information and broadcasting, confirmed in a statement that Pakistan’s prime minister, Nawaz Sharif, had announced the reward “to acknowledge players’ efforts in winning the ICC championship”.
Aurangzeb also stated that the team had “made the entire nation proud”.
Pakistan’s players returned home on Tuesday to a rapturous welcome from delighted fans, with hundreds gathering outside the Karachi home of captain Sarfraz.
