PSG exit talk: Lionel Messi’s representatives speak
Argentine superstar Lionel Messi has been subject of PSG exit talks in recent weeks a situation which has drawn comments from his representatives.
Top media outlets in France have claimed PSG are willing to part ways with Messi or get the World Cup winner whose contract expires this summer to renew with a pay-cut.
Speaking to French newspaper Le Parisien, Messi’s representatives urged: ‘It’s strange to see news about the club wanting to lower Leo’s salary, or not wanting to extend his contract circulate.
‘We don’t want to play this little game. This kind of fake news doesn’t do Leo, nor his relationship with the club, any good. But perhaps that’s exactly what some people want.
‘We won’t make a public statement, but not only is it clear that Leo and the club are negotiating, but the club want Leo to stay, as the manager (Christophe Galtier) recently said.
‘It is therefore strange to see someone divulge something else to the press. What interest do they have in lying? It would be good to ask those doing it,” the statement from Messi’s representatives concluded.
Despite this comments, reports linking Messi with a move away from PSG has not gone away.
This reports are fuelled by Messi’s acrimonious relationship with a section of PSG supporters. Messi was booed in the capital club’s 0-1 loss to Lyon over the weekend.
A summer transfer to the MLS, a return to FC Barcelona, Manchester United and most recently a sensational move to Saudi Arabian Pro League side Al Hilal has been mooted ahead of the summer.
Despite stalling contract renewal talks between Messi and PSG, it is clear the Argentine will prioritize a European stay amidst tempting offers from the Middle East.
