Qatar 2022: Hodgson rules Troost-Ekong out of Ghana games?

William Troost-Ekong is likely not to be available for the Super Eagles of Nigeria FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 play-off round against the Black Stars of Ghana.

The Super Eagles captain is expected to lead the team when they faced Black Stars in the coming weeks but he now has been ruled out by his manager.

According to Roy Hodgson, Watford’s manager William Troost-Ekong is currently down with an injury and would be out for foreseeable future.

“Troost-Ekong has suffered a similar injury, and both will be out “for the foreseeable future,” according to Hodgson.

“It’s a muscle strain, the same with Troost-Ekong,” said Hodgson, 74, of Sarr. “It’s going to keep them both out of the equation for the foreseeable future, but I don’t know how long exactly.

“It’s not a minor thing, it’s not a knock, both have muscle strains, and that can take anything from a week to four weeks to recover from.”

This opens doors for Chidozie Awaziem (Alanyaspor FC, Turkey who is currently on the standby list.

If it will take up to four weeks for Troost-Ekong to be back from injury he might not be fully fit for a games that will take place in three weeks’ time.

The camp opens in Abuja on 21st March, with a 24 –man final list for the two big games to be released at a later date.

The first leg will be played in Cape Coast Sports Stadium from 7.30 pm on Friday 25th March, with the reverse leg set for the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja on Tuesday, 29th March from 6 pm.
