Just days after retiring from tennis, Rafael Nadal has announced a new location for his hotel chain, ZEL Born.
Nadal ended his 23-year tennis career on Tuesday, November 19, with a loss to Dutch player Botic van de Zandschulp. He also confirmed his retirement after Spain’s doubles loss to the Netherlands in the Davis Cup.
The 38-year-old is already moving forward with his business ventures. His hotel chain, co-founded with Gabriel Escarrer, the CEO of Melia Hotels International, will open its first hotel outside Spain in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
The new hotel, ZEL Punta Cana, will be located on Cortecito Beach, a beautiful spot on the Bavaro coast known for its sandy beaches and clear waters. The hotel will have 190 rooms and aims to bring the Mediterranean lifestyle to the Caribbean.
This is the third hotel in the ZEL chain. The first two are ZEL Mallorca, opened last year, and ZEL Costa Brava, launched earlier this year.
Escarrer described the Caribbean as a perfect location for expanding their vision of Mediterranean-inspired hospitality. “ZEL is a true Mediterranean embassy, and we hope to bring this experience to Punta Cana,” he said.
Nadal continues to make big moves, even after leaving professional tennis.
