Rafael Nadal Receives Laureus Sporting Icon Award in Madrid
Rafael Nadal was given the Laureus Sporting Icon Award on Monday evening during a special ceremony in Madrid.
The Spanish tennis legend, who won the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year award in both 2011 and 2021, retired from professional tennis last November after playing for Spain in the Davis Cup.
Nadal had an incredible career, winning 92 titles and recording 1,080 match wins on the ATP Tour, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index. He also spent 209 weeks as the world’s number one, the sixth-highest total since ATP rankings began in 1973.
On the red carpet, Nadal shared a laugh with fellow Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, who was nominated for World Sportsman of the Year. That award went to Swedish pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis.
Other top tennis stars at the 2025 Laureus World Sports Awards included Novak Djokovic, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Paula Badosa, Garbiñe Muguruza, Belinda Bencic, Caroline Garcia and Donna Vekic.
