Randy Waldrum speaks on Asisat Oshoala’s ‘probable injury’ in AWCON opener loss to South Africa
Super Falcons head coach Randy Waldrum has spoken about an injury picked by superstar forward Asisat Oshoala in Nigeria’s 2-1 opening game loss to South Africa.
The Barcelona forward picked up a likely knock in the opening minutes of the first Group C game against South Africa in Morocco.
Despite the knock, the four-time African footballer of the year pushed herself but requested to be subbed off in the second half when she couldn’t carry on.
While she was on the pitch, Oshoala was almost rendered useless as she was deprived of quality balls in space for her to operate.
South Africa scored two goals in the space of three minutes in the second half to take the lead against Nigeria with Rasheedat Ajibade grabbing Super Falcons’ consolatory goal in the late minute of the game.
Nigeria must beat Botswana on Thursday to keep their hopes of claiming their 10th AWCON title and they need all their start players including Asisat Oshoala to achieve this.
And coach Randy Waldrum has given an update on the injury.
“I think she will be fine, the doctors will check her and I am hopeful for a good update.”
Botswana who trashed Burundi 4-2 sit top of the group, South Africa who defeated Nigeria 2-1 sit second while Nigeria sits third and Burundi fourth.
