Randy Waldrum talks tough, says Super Falcons must improve against Botswana

Super Falcons head coach Randy Waldrum has charged the team to buckle up after their 2-1 opening game loss to South Africa on Monday.

The American could only watch as South Africa took his team apart in Morocco to condemn Nigeria to the 3rd spot on the Group C log.

Two quick goals in the second half were enough to help South Africa inflict just the 6th defeat on Nigeria in over 60 AWCON games.

“We knew it would be a difficult game, it is the first game of the tournament and it is a long tournament. We have to prepare for the next games.

“I was surprised with our performance in the attack. We got a late goal and we tried to get back in the game, we are still positive.

“I am looking forward to how we can improve, we will look at the areas we were exposed and we will make those corrections.”

“We can’t panic at this period, we still have two group games and we have to improve. We will analyze and review individual players’ performance and make the right decisions in the next games.”

Nigeria will play first-place Botswana on Thursday as the Super Falcons continue their La Decima chase, while South Africa play Burundi.
