Rangers Grieve Painful Derby Loss to Enyimba
Rangers International manager, Fidelis Ilechukwu, has admitted the team is mourning after their painful defeat to Enyimba in Sunday’s Oriental derby.
The Flying Antelopes fell 2-1 to their fierce rivals at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu. Goals from Innocent Gabriel and Ekene Awazie gave Enyimba the edge, with Chidozie Okorie’s strike for Rangers proving to be only a consolation.
Speaking after the match, a disappointed Ilechukwu said his players failed to take their chances.
“It was not the result we wanted, but football showed itself again,” he said.
“We had a bad first half where we let in two goals, but we came back stronger in the second half, got a goal back but failed to convert more chances that were created.
“It’s a painful loss, and we grieve over the loss.”
The defeat saw Rangers slip to eighth place on the Nigeria Premier Football League table, with 49 points from 35 matches.
Rangers will hope to bounce back when they face Rivers United in their next game in Port Harcourt.
