Rangers International FC faces unrest over delayed wages
Trouble is boiling in the camp of reigning Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions, Rangers International FC of Enugu, SportsRation exclusively reports.
The Nigerian champions are facing growing frustration due to unpaid wages, with players and staff expressing dissatisfaction over the delay in their November salaries. As of today, December 20, the salary has yet to arrive, causing tension within the squad.
Sources close to the team have revealed that while the Enugu State Government’s budget for the club is lean compared to other NPFL teams, Rangers International FC has been successfully managed by General Manager Barrister Amobi Ezeaku. Ezeaku’s ingenuity has helped attract sponsorships that have supported the club’s operations and allowed it to carry out most of its programs. Despite these financial challenges, Rangers has continued to compete at a high level.
The ongoing wage dispute, however, has become a major issue for the players, particularly as the end of the year approaches. The unpaid November salary has created an atmosphere of frustration among the squad, just as the team is in the middle of defending its league title.
Head coach Fidelis Ilechukwu, currently away on international duty with the Super Eagles B team, has reportedly stepped in to help ease the concerns of the players, assuring them that the situation will be resolved as they continue their title defense.
At the moment, Rangers International FC sit in third place in the NPFL standings after 17 weeks. They are set to face Shooting Stars at home this weekend, and the players are eager to stay focused on the task ahead despite the off-field distractions.
SportsRation can confirm that the club’s management has assured the players that the owed wages will be settled before Christmas Day next week, providing some hope that the situation will be resolved before it escalates further.
