Real Madrid crush Leganes 3-0 to close gap on Barcelona

Real Madrid took full advantage of Barcelona’s draw against Celta Vigo yesterday by defeating Leganes 3-0, reducing the gap between the two teams.

Real Madrid wasted no time showing their intent, with Kylian Mbappe scoring early, but his goal was ruled out for offside. However, the French forward would get his goal later in the match.

Leganes held off Real Madrid for almost 45 minutes, but a mistake by Adria Altimira outside his box allowed Vinicius Jr to pass to Mbappe, who calmly scored just before halftime.

The situation worsened for Leganes 25 minutes from time when Fede Valverde’s free-kick went through Miguel de la Fuente’s legs and caught goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic off guard at the near post.

Leganes never threatened, failing to record a single shot on target. Jude Bellingham added a third goal late in the game, sealing a 3-0 win for Real Madrid. With this victory, Real Madrid moved into second place, just four points behind leaders Barcelona, with one game in hand.
