Real Madrid go level with Barcelona after 2-0 victory over Villarreal

Real Madrid secured a crucial 2-0 win against Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabéu, moving level on points with Barcelona in the La Liga title race.

The victory, powered by stunning long-range efforts from Federico Valverde and Vinícius Jr., marked a strong response from Los Blancos following their midweek defeat against Lille.

The match kicked off with both teams seeking to assert dominance, but Villarreal started brightly, creating several chances in the first half. Despite their opportunities, it was Real Madrid who broke the deadlock in the 14th minute when Federico Valverde unleashed a powerful shot from distance, leaving Villarreal goalkeeper Gerónimo Rulli with no chance.

After taking the lead, Real Madrid grew in confidence, though Villarreal continued to threaten. However, the hosts managed to maintain their advantage, thanks in part to a solid defensive performance.

In the second half, Real Madrid looked to extend their lead, and they did just that in the 73rd minute. Vinícius Jr. added the second goal with another spectacular long-range shot, sealing the victory for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

The win was vital for Real Madrid, who had previously seen their impressive 36-game unbeaten run come to an end. With this result, they now sit level on points with rivals Barcelona at the top of the La Liga standings.
