Red Bull’s Sergio Perez claims maiden win of season in Monaco Grand Prix
Red Bull Racing driver Sergio Perez claimed his first win of the 2022 season as he emerged with the win at the Monaco Grand Prix, beating teammate Max Verstappen and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc to the win.
In what was the seventh race of the 2022 Formula One season, the Mexican driver started in the third position after Leclerc claimed his third consecutive pole position in the qualifying race.
Perez delivered a frenetic display in the opening laps and had fallen to fifth place by the 17th lap. The Red Bull driver, however, kept his focus throughout and duly took the lead in the 24th lap. He managed to keep his lead until the end of the race, fending off fierce competition from Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz, who finished in second place. Perez’s teammate Verstappen picked up the last podium place.
Leclerc finished in fourth place, with Mercedes’ George Russell coming fifth and Lando Norris in sixth. Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton, Valtteri Bottas, and Sebastian Vettel rounded off the top 10 in the Monaco Grand Prix.
After three consecutive race wins in Italy, Miami and Barcelona, Verstappen finally lost his first completed race of the season but maintains a nine-point lead over Leclerc in the 2022 Drivers Championship standings. The season will continue on the weekend of the 11th and 12th of June at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
