Red-hot Terem Moffi strikes thrice in big Lorient win
Nigerian youngster now has 14 Ligue 1 goals this season
21 year old Nigerian forward, Terem Moffi scored a brilliant hattrick, the first of his Lorient career as Lorient thrashed Girondins de Bordeaux 4-1 in the Ligue 1 on Sunday.
Yoane Wissa opened the scoring for Lorient before Moffi took center stage brilliantly. Moffi made it 2-0 after a quick Lorient counter saw Wissa play the ball square to him for a simple finish in the 20th minute.
Then the striker scored an even better goal to make it 3-0 when a long ball from Chelsea loanee Trevor Chalobah found the young striker who took the ball in his stride between two Bordeaux defenders and dribbled past the keeper before slotting home into an empty net in the 43rd minute.
The unstoppable force found his third goal, and it was the pick of the bunch. He received the ball totally alone in the Bordeaux half, surrounded by Blue shirts, but he had the awareness of space and time to weave his way into a shooting position and curl a brilliant strike into the far corner of the net from outside the box in the 80th minute of the encounter.
Bordeaux scored a late consolation goal through Issouf Sissokho in the 83rd minute.
Moffi has now hit 14 Ligue 1 goals in his debut season, taking him one above the 13 Victor Osimhen scored for Lille last season before earning a move to Napoli. His goals have managed to keep Lorient in 17th place in the league, 4 points above the relegation zone.
With his 14 goal, he has now matched Victor Ikpeba tally which was the highest by a Nigerian in French Ligue.
The Prince of Monaco achieved the 14-goal tally in the 1997/1998 season.
