Relegation Looms: Onuachu and Aribo Could Go Down Today with Southampton

Southampton risk unwanted Premier League record

Nigerian stars Paul Onuachu and Joe Aribo could see their Premier League journey with Southampton come to an early end today, as the struggling club faces a must-win match against Tottenham Hotspur.

Paul Onuachu found the back of the net again for Southampton, scoring his third goal of the season in their 2-1 home defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers

Southampton, who sit bottom of the Premier League table, are on the verge of making unwanted history. If they lose at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, they will become the earliest team ever to be relegated from the Premier League based on fixtures played — gameweek 31.

The current record for the earliest relegation belongs to Derby County and Huddersfield Town, who were both relegated after 32 games. A defeat for Southampton this afternoon would see them break that record — and not in a good way.

So far this season, the Saints have picked up just 10 points from 30 matches, winning only twice. Their form has been poor, and with just eight matches remaining — including tough clashes against Arsenal, Manchester City, and Aston Villa — their hopes of survival are slim.

For Onuachu and Aribo, this could mark a disappointing chapter in their careers. Both players joined the club with hopes of making an impact in the Premier League, but the team’s struggles have overshadowed individual efforts.

Southampton are currently 22 points from safety. Even a miracle run of results may not be enough to save them — and today’s match against Tottenham could officially seal their fate.

Fans and neutrals alike will be watching closely as the Saints try to avoid what could be a historic low in Premier League history.
