Remo Stars Stage Late Comeback to Beat El-Kanemi Warriors

Remo Stars returned to winning ways in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after staging a late comeback to defeat El-Kanemi Warriors 2-1 in Ikenne on Monday.

Daniel Ogunmodede’s team went into the match on the back of three straight defeats to Katsina United, Kwara United and Nasarawa United. However, they showed great determination to end their poor run in dramatic fashion.

El-Kanemi Warriors took the lead two minutes before the hour mark through Jonas Emmanuel, silencing the home fans. Remo Stars refused to back down and kept pushing for an equaliser.

Their hard work was rewarded when Victor Mbaoma scored from the penalty spot in the 88th minute to bring the hosts level. Deep into stoppage time, former Abia Warriors striker Michael Ibe netted the winner with a calm finish to seal all three points.

In other matches, Rivers United climbed to fourth place on the NPFL table after a hard-fought 1-0 away victory over Kun Khalifat in Owerri. Maclyn Biokpo scored the decisive goal for Finidi George’s side 11 minutes from time.

At the New Jos Stadium, Plateau United continued their strong home form with a narrow 1-0 win against Bendel Insurance. Saka Gafar’s goal secured the victory for the hosts.

Bendel Insurance remain winless under new manager Kennedy Boboye, increasing the pressure on the technical crew as the Benin Arsenal search for their first win of the season.
