Report: Real Madrid win the race to sign Monaco’s Kylian Mbappe

Real Madrid have reportedly beaten Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain in the race to sign AS Monaco forward Kylian Mbappe.

After the teenager scored 26 goals in 44 appearances in all competitions last summer, he quickly became the subject of considerable interest from some of European football’s biggest clubs who are prepared to spend over £100m for his signature.

It has always appeared that Real held an edge in the pursuit of the French international due to the player’s admiration of coach Zinedine Zidane and according to The Sun, they are closing in on his signature.

It has been suggested that a fee of £120m has been agreed between the two clubs, while personal terms are considered a formality with a player who would become the club’s star signing of the summer.

If the transfer goes ahead, it will have been part funded by the sale of Alvaro Morata, who has left the Bernabeu to sign for Chelsea in a deal which allegedly could reach £70m.

Monaco had been keen to keep hold of their best players ahead of the defence of their Ligue 1 title, but Mbappe could be one of at least five first-team regulars who leave Stade Louis II before the end of August.
