Revealed: Orban, Ebuehi to receive Super Eagles call-up for AFCON qualifiers
Revelation has emerged of the inclusion of Gent striker Gift Orban and Tyronne Ebuehi in the Super Eagles roster for the AFCON qualifiers vs Sierra Leone.
Nigeria`s squad for the crucial 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier is yet to be made public but invitation has reportedly been sent across to invited players.
On that list SPORTSRATION understands is Gent striker Gift Orban. The 20-year old will reportedly get his first Super Eagles call-up, a reward for a fantastic season in Belgium.
Recall that the red-hot forward was named by Coach Salisu Yusuf for the U-23 Eagles clash vs Guinea in March but the youngster elected against reporting for duty for yet to be revealed reasons.
Peseiro is impressed with his quality and will drop one of the forwards from the last team roster in favour of Orban, with Southampton striker Paul Onuachu speculated as the one to get the axe .
Also in line for a call-up is Empoli left-back Tyronne Ebuehi. Unlike Orban, Ebuehi is not a new name around the Nigeria National team list.
The defender is favoured for a Super Eagles return following injury to Fenerbahce defender Bright Osayi-Samuel whose latest injury may rule him out of the Sierra Leone game.
Ebuehi has made 24 appearances for the Italian Serie A outfit playing 1,759 minutes this season, enough stats to earn a recall after being left out of the team for the double-header vs Guinea-Bissau.
A win for Nigeria vs Sierra Leone will seal qualification for the Ivory Coast 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
Super Eagles Head Coach Jose Peseiro is under pressure to present a team that will deliver a fine performance vs Sierra Leone with his contract expiring weeks later.
A huge win may just convince the Nigeria Football Federation to offer an extension at least until the next summer.
