REVEALED: Potential Erik Ten Hag replacement for Manchester United manager role

Spanish manager Julen Lopetegui is reportedly in pole position to take over as the next manager of Manchester United if current boss Erik ten Hag is relieved of his duties.

The 57-year-old, who previously managed Sevilla and recently left Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves), is said to have rejected a lucrative offer from a Saudi Arabian team amounting to £15.5 million ($19.4 million) per year. Lopetegui, currently residing in England, is allegedly keen on securing another managerial role in the country.

Manchester United’s recent struggles, including their Champions League exit with a 1-0 loss to Bayern Munich and being out of the Carabao Cup, have intensified speculation about Erik ten Hag’s future. The team is also trailing in the Premier League title race. Lopetegui’s potential appointment would mark the sixth permanent manager for Manchester United since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement over a decade ago.

Lopetegui left Wolves earlier this year after less than a season in charge. The departure was described as amicable, with both parties acknowledging differences of opinion on certain issues. Former Bournemouth manager Gary O’Neil succeeded Lopetegui at Wolves.

As Manchester United faces a challenging period, Lopetegui’s experience, particularly his tenure at Wolves, appears to have caught the attention of the club’s hierarchy. The team’s performance under ten Hag will likely come under increased scrutiny, especially as they prepare for a crucial clash against Premier League leaders Liverpool.

The managerial carousel at Manchester United continues, and the potential addition of Julen Lopetegui could usher in a new chapter for the club as they seek stability and success on the domestic and European fronts.
