Revealed why Toni Payne who is with Super Falcons in Spain is yet to make her debut
Antionette Oyedupe Payne (Toni Payne) has been made to wait before making a her debut for Nigeria after switching her allegiance to her parents country of birth.
The American born 23-year-old attacker who had previously played for USA at the U-17 and Olympics was invited to be part of the 24 Super Falcons team that travelled to Spain for two-game friendlies, but she didn’t play in the first game against UMF Selfoss.
Super Falcons demolished the Icelandic women’s club 6-1 on Friday while Tony Payne watched from the stand as she was not listed in the matchday squad.
Sportsration.com has gathered that the Sevilla player has been made to wait for her debut because Nigeria is awaiting a FIFA clearance before throwing her into the team.
It was further gathered that a letter from the USA football federation is now behind the continued delay for the exciting winger to play for the country of her parents.
Payne has played for Ajax Amsterdam and she has been on top form in the Spanish top league with Sevilla this season.
She was named on a Super Falcons 24-person squad for friendlies against UMF Selfoss of Iceland and Canada in Murcia, Spain.
