Revealed: Why Victor Boniface may not Join Al Nassr this month
Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr have unexpectedly put their move for Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface on hold, creating uncertainty over the deal.
Boniface’s transfer seemed almost certain after Al Nassr agreed a €60 million fee with Leverkusen. Reports from Sky Sports Germany also confirmed that the Nigerian striker had completed and passed his medical, finalising all contract and salary details, including a €15 million annual net wage.
However, new reports suggest the move has stalled at the last minute, even as Boniface was packed and ready to travel to Saudi Arabia with Al Nassr’s delegation.
Why the Deal is Stalling
The delay appears to be due to Al Nassr’s simultaneous negotiations with Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran. Sources indicate that while Leverkusen are waiting for the final signatures, Al Nassr are still deciding whether to sign Boniface or Duran.
Duran, 21, has already agreed personal terms with the Saudi club, and his agents are confident of completing the transfer. Aston Villa have received a €70 million offer for the Colombian forward, which is higher than the fee agreed for Boniface.
Leverkusen, now uncertain about Al Nassr’s commitment, are awaiting confirmation on whether the deal will go ahead.
Boniface’s Impact at Leverkusen
Since joining Bayer Leverkusen in 2023, Boniface has been a key player, helping them win the Bundesliga, German Cup, and Super Cup. His debut season was impressive, with 21 goals and 10 assists in 34 appearances, earning him the Bundesliga Rookie of the Year award.
His absence from training on Tuesday has further fuelled speculation about his future, with Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso confirming the uncertainty surrounding the move.
For now, Boniface’s move to Al Nassr remains in doubt as the Saudi club weighs up its options.
