Rivers Angels get mouth-watering reward for NWFL Playoff opening day result
In a bid to ensure Rivers Angels reclaim their place as one of the most successful female football clubs in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL), the Rivers State Government has introduced substantial incentives for the team as they participate in the 2023/2024 NWFL championship playoff.
Facing fierce competition from clubs like Bayelsa Queens and Delta Queens in recent years, Rivers Angels are determined to reclaim their former glory. In this effort, the Rivers State Sports Commissioner, Barr. Chris Green, has announced significant rewards to motivate the team.
On matchday one of the NWFL playoff, Rivers Angels received a 2 million naira reward from Commissioner Green after securing a 1-1 draw against Bayelsa Queens.
This draw was achieved in a dramatic fashion, with Rita Peter equalizing after Fehintola Mabokanje had given Bayelsa Queens the lead in the South-South derby at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa on Saturday, May 8.
Rivers Angels will next face Edo Queens in the Super Six championship on Monday, May 20, 2024, as they continue their quest for the NWFL title.
In the other decided games, Edo Queens pummeled Confluence Queens 5-1 while Heartland Queens and Nassarawa Amazons ended in a draw.
