Rivers Angels secure ninth Federation Cup title

Rivers Angels have added another laurel to their collection, securing their ninth Federation Cup title with a tense 1-0 victory over first-time finalists Naija Ratels at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.

This triumph marks the end of head coach Whyte Ogbonda’s trophyless spell, following a heartbreaking 2023/24 NWFL season where Rivers Angels narrowly missed the crown, finishing just one point behind Edo Queens.

The match, attended by numerous dignitaries from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), lived up to expectations. Both sides exchanged cautious passes and maintained a vigilant defense throughout.

The decisive moment came just minutes before halftime when a Naija Ratels defender handled the ball in the penalty area. Rivers Angels capitalized on the opportunity, scoring the match-winning goal from the penalty spot.

In the second half, Naija Ratels pressed hard for an equalizer, but Rivers Angels’ resilient defense held firm, ensuring their victory and solidifying their status as nine-time champions.

Following this thrilling encounter, the stage is set for the Men’s Federation Cup final between Abia Warriors FC and recently promoted El Kanemi Warriors.
