Rivers United, Akwa United set for clash of titans in NPFL Matchday 33 encounter
Sunshine Stars to face Adamawa United, Warri Wolves face battle against Kwara United
All of the NPFL Matchday 33 fixtures are due to hold on Sunday July 18th by 4 pm.
Rivers United will host Akwa United in their NPFL Matchday 33 encounter at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt on Sunday, with only 5 points separating the sides. Akwa United have picked up 18 points away from home this season and know that a win would put them firmly in control of their own destiny as they chase a first NPFL title.
Sunshine Stars will travel to Gombe, where they will take on bottom side Adamawa United in a relegation battle. The Akure Gunners are only separated from the drop zone by goal difference, while Adamawa United would be looking to carry out a miraculous escape from relegation to the second division.
Warri Wolves will welcome continental ticket-chasing Kwara United to the Ozoro Poly Stadium in Delta as they look to do the necessary work to beat the drop into the NNL by picking up enough points to lift them out of the relegation zone. Kwara United are in sixth place, but are separated from the continental places by only three points.
Heartland FC will welcome Rangers International to the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri for an Oriental derby of great importance. The Flying Antelopes are in pursuit of a continental ticket, and the Naze Millionaires would look to end the season with a mid-table finish.
Kano Pillars continue with their bid to become NPFL champions when they host Dakkada FC at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna. The Aiteo Cup holders are in fourth place, outside the continental places on goal difference, and only five points behind the league’s leaders. A win for Kano Pillars would take them into the league’s top three and back in the mix for the NPFL title.
Wikki Tourists will welcome out-of-sorts Abia Warriors to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi. The Umuahia Landlords have been far from impressive in the league in recent weeks, and were knocked out of the Aiteo Cup during the week by a second division side. Only two points separate these two sides and defeat for either of them can leave them in the relegation zone at the end of the Matchday.
Katrina United would be looking to put the disappointment of crashing out of the Aiteo Cup to lower league opposition behind them when they host Lobi Stars at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium. The Changi Boys are five points above the relegation zone and should be able to do the business at home to Lobi Stars to further boost their survival chances.
FC Ifeanyi Ubah will face a massive fight for survival when they visit Plateau United FC at the New Jos Stadium. The Anambra Warriors are in 18th place and are two points from safety in the NPFL. They face a Plateau United side 10 points ahead of them in the league.
Enyimba will be looking to get their title chase back on track when they host 17th place Jigawa Golden Stars at the Enyimba International Stadium in their NPFL Matchday 33 encounter. The People’s Elephant are six points behind the league’s top-ranked side Akwa United, and with only six games left, they know they need to pick up as many points as possible to stand a chance of winning the NPFL.
Nasarawa United will lock horns with MFM FC at the Lafia Township Stadium in the hopes of picking up all three points on offer and closing the gap between themselves and first-place Akwa United in the NPFL. The Solid Miners are in second place on 55 points and sit five points behind Akwa United, who are atop the NPFL standings.
